Merry Christmas from the Riga Christmas Market

Being in Latvia, the north of Europe, makes you feel closer to the home of Santa Claus. It is also colder. The Christmas markets are different than we use to see. Maybe it is more traditional. In the middle of the square stands a giant Christmas tree and white barn.

The traders are selling candy, wooden spoons, warm shoes, gloves, woolen hats, cakes, cookies, honey, meat, cheese and syrups. A man in traditional clothing is warming up red wine. Can you imagine that we encountered friends from The Netherlands on this market? Merry Christmas to all.

  1. This one is awesome! I should have known you would find the best one! This is one thing we do not have here in the U.S.A. No Christmas Markets, it is strictly a European thing. So did you buy anything?

  2. Everything here is beautifully presented, all the goods and the market stalls/booths themselves. I enjoyed seeing the sheep too. Merry Christmas Filip!

  3. Lovely, nostalgic images. I also was some Christmas ago in Riga, and it was cold, too.
Happy Christmastime to both of you.

  5. Amazing to see everyone rugged up. Yes, i can believe that you came across friends there. We have had that happen to us many times in Australia. We have to consider the size of my country and that Europe fits in it.
Trust you both had a lovely Christmas Day at home.

Lieve groeten, Dietmut
